All one color

Colored ceilings are very on trend right now,
not all ceilings need to be white.
The affect can make a room totally different

But there is also the option of using the same color as your walls!

Doing so can open up a room, there is no sharp lines to stop your vision.

A small movie nook can become cozy and warm all in one color.
Try a color like CC-514 Hiking Trail

A modern dramatic master bedroom in steel grays. The walls stay as a background and let the other pieces shine, like the gorgeous chandelier!
Try 2134-40 Whale Gray

In a fancy feminine bathroom the ceiling seems to go on forever.
Use HC-58 Chippendale Rosetone

If you wanted a feature wall, another option is to wrap it onto the ceiling.
This lengthens the room and creates a very appealing effect.
Pair 2132-40 Eclipse with OC-64 Pure White

Use 2068-40 California Lilac
 HC-169 Coventry Gray
 2057-50 Turquoise Powder

2147-30 Jalepeno Pepper

Lots of homes have the awkwardly angled ceiling on the upper levels.
Either there's no place to stop the walls properly or it would look funny.
Using one color can look fantastic!

Another benefit to painting the ceiling the same,

no worry of perfect cut lines!
and less paint to purchase!

Paint away with no care of a perfect line at a white ceiling.
and lessen your total bill by not getting an extra can for ceiling white.

Stay Inspired!

Rouge It Up

Red is a very emotionally intense color.
It is associated with energy, desire, strength, danger and power.
Also it can create love and passion.

The deep color is said to enhance metabolism and increase blood pressure.

Red is used a lot in advertising to create buyers quick decisions.

Light red represents joy, sexuality, passion, sensitivity, and love.
Pink signifies romance, love, and friendship. It denotes feminine qualities and passiveness.
Dark red is associated with vigor, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, longing, malice, and wrath.
Brown suggests stability and denotes masculine qualities.
Reddish-brown is associated with harvest and fall.

How ever you may feel on the sultry shade
it can make a great addition to any room.

Here are our most popular and favorite reds

2005-10 Red Rock

2080-10 Raspberry Truffle

The Darker the Better

*bathroom painted in HC-168 Chelsea Gray

Choosing a color and think it may be too dark?
Sometimes darker can really define a space.

Here's an example from my own home.

Our basement has a very (very) low ceiling.
My boyfriend and I both love dark, deep colors.
The basement is kind of his space so his reply to which color he wanted was 'brown'.
Simple. But grayer tones are what I love.
We have a half bath in the basement that desperately needed help.
After purchasing the home, I hadn't really noticed that bathroom.
Until one day, I really looked. Yikes, it was blinding shiny white. Everything.

In the right application it would be nice, but defiantly not our style.

Before:

After:

The bathroom now looks super cozy and homey.
We chose to paint Taos Taupe 2111-40
and used the Regal Select in Eggshell finish.
The Regal Select has an extra mildew resistance
And we swayed from our regular matte finish to a little more washable eggshell.

The ceiling I repainted Cloud White CC-40 in a ceiling flat.

Even though the ceiling is low its impossible to tell.

Sometimes darker is better.
And can change the feel of a space
making it perfect.

Falling in love with color

Some may be nervous about taking the plunge
But letting your home indulge in unexpected color
can make a world of a difference.

No definition and cold washed out walls.
Change it up! Instead of using white on your wainscoting add some color.
Warmer walls and ceiling make it feel like its always sunny out.
And surprising pops of color really finish it off.

Walls & Ceiling: AF-365 Amulet
Wainscoting: AF-430 Wasabi
Accent: 2051-30 Casco Bay

Using a brighter color on all the walls can change your outlook.
Neutral is always a classic, but when you need to amp it up
and really change the feel of a room, try going bold.

Walls: AF-530 Lucerne
Inside Bookcases: AF-700 Storm

Color doesn't overwhelm a room unless you don't like the color.
Choose a hue in your favorite color.

Accent Color: 2027-40 Grape Green
Ceiling & Body: AF-25 Paper Mache

Shocking Pink!

Wow! Check out this end result!
We did a custom color for the Doodlebops tour equipment.
Given the fitting name 'Shocking Pink'!

No way they're loosing their equipment now!

What an update!

We became obsessed with bringing old furniture back to life.
We perfected the technique  and enjoy seeing what can happen if you just go with it.

Awhile back we were overviewing the colors to be painted in the new Ikea in Winnipeg. One really stood out to us.
But we didn't remember ever seeing it before.

Inspired and excited we brainstormed.
Where can we feature this funky yellow green?
With the addition to a newer product on our shelves, we hit the thrift store.

Benjamin Moore's Advance is a waterborne alkyd. This means you have the benefit of water clean up and low odor. When it dries you have perfect leveling and super durability because of the alkyd. It's extremely easy to paint and comes in any color.

If your furniture piece isn't already painted, a primer is always recommended. Our go to primer is STIX, a primer by Insl-x. STIX is a urethane bonding primer, it has extreme adhering properties, thus giving it the name STIX.

Then we found our furniture piece. Many young girls had the bedroom set, many still do. Quality craftsmanship made this dresser a perfect candidate for an update.

Glossy yellowed white with gold accents, accompanied by some red nail polish stains.

Quickly we got to work, itching to see it finished.

We used Willow Green 2150-10 as an accent, we painted the lower wavy bar with it and added it to the bottom of the drawers. Our accent décor on it we matched to the Willow Green to really tie it all together.

For the body of the dresser we chose Dark Pewter 2122-10. Its the perfect dark gray with a blue/green undertone hiding in there.

For a quick and inexpensive update on the hardware. We used a silver metallic spray paint.

TIP: to get a smooth finish on your paint/primer, we suggest using a flocked foam roller. It's like a regular high density foam roller, but its cover in little hairs. The hairs pop bubbles as it goes giving a smooth finish.

Finally, we all gathered. Now hooked on painting furniture, we admired our new dresser.

Also, we have to tell you, this dresser is famous now.

Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore's color expert, was in town for an evening about the 2013 Color Trends.
But that morning, she came to our store and did a TV segment about color trends and our dresser. It was featured on CTV Morning Live.

Here it is all pristine and finished. Matching décor and all.
On display for everyone to become inspired, showcasing our colour stories display.

Hope your full of inspiration now!

Add some blue to your green!

We get asked this a lot, what's a popular accent?

Blue is the most relaxing and calming color.
While green can create harmony and stability.
Why not combine the two.

Teal and turquoise come in many different version. Whether you want that stop you in your tracks bright wow factor or a subtle cooling wash of color, turquoise can be the perfect accent in any room.

In this bedroom, a funky accent wall of Surf Blue 2056-30 was used behind the headboard. In a rather neutral pallet, a fun splash of ocean blue is a great way to add personality.

This room opted for a softer turquoise as the feature. Cool Aqua 2056-40 would achieve this cooling modern bedroom.

But the bedroom isn't always the one that gets the electric wash of color. This living rooms walls are all painted in a color like Fairy Tale Blue 2055-50. Lots of pattern and hot pink catch your eye while the teal relaxes your senses.

If your kitchen is feeling left out, a more neutral version of teal can add some interest without stealing the show. These cabinets were painted in Avalon CC-756, its the perfect amount of color for someone who wants a lively kitchen without too much going on.

Don't live in a tropical wonderland? Add turquoise outside to bring you home to a little ocean glam! This door really makes a statement, try using Poolside Blue 2048-40.

These colors as accents can breathe new life into your home.
For more ideas teal/turquoise come see us in store or check out Benjamin Moore's website to browse the color gallery.
